There are a number of Flamenco Festivals held in Arcos, Jerez and the surrounding region throughout the year. It is 'unusual' and performed with passion. Punk rock from 2000 years ago!!
Centuries ago, Gypsies came to Andalucía from lands far to the east, bringing with them their vibrant musical tradition. The Moors brought theirs from across the Mediterranean . Jews and Arabs formed an integral element of Spain , and their rich influence, and their chants were reflected in the indigenous folk music of Andalucía. All these musical rhythms, modulations and tonalities were different from those of the West. Musical expressions of Andalucía's cultural mix were adapted, embellished, and developed into the complex art form we know as flamenco. Flamenco evolved from inspired spontaneity and improvisation, from expressions of daily life, joy, sorrow, love, humor. Different towns and villages throughout the six provinces of Andalucía gave birth to their own distinct dance and song forms that were enhanced, defined and interpreted by local master singers and dancers. Flamenco is folkloric, performed in the countryside, in Gypsy quarters, at peñas (gathering places of associations or enthusiasts of the art of flamenco), and at intensive free-for-all flamenco fiestas known as juergas.
We will find a performance for you to experiance.
