The Real Maestranza Bullring in Seville is considered one of the most important and the Museum is well worth a visit, if not the actual fights. Other Bullrings and their museums are in Puerto de Santa Maria and Jerez de la Frontera.
The season traditionally begins in the Real Maestranza Bullring on Easter Sunday, continuing before and after the April Fair, for up to 16 to 18 days. There are also bullfights around the feast of Corpus Christi; on August 15 - feast of the Assumption as well as Virgen de los Reyes, patroness of Seville; the last week-end in September, feast of St. Michael and on October 12, the feast of Virgen del Pilar when the season officially comes to an end, though there may well be a few more bullfights. Furthermore, there are novilladas (bullfights with young bulls) and picadors during all Sundays in May, June and September. In July and August there may well be some further novilladas with picadors and, particularly, a promotion series without picadors, sponsored by the Real Maestranza which has established several prizes for the best performances.
At the end of April and beginning of May, the bullring in Jerez presents one of the best chances to experience excellent bullfighting. A specialist public knowledgeable in the art of improvisation anticipate a calendar of top quality bulls and toreros. The bullfighting events take place during the feria week, which also hosts the most important equestrian events. Certainly do not miss an opportunity to see the rejoneo, bullfighting on horseback. There are very few riders with the skill of both horsemanship and bullfighting.
We will find a performance for you to experiance.
